Mr. Allen is the Chief Executive Officer of A. C. Allen
& Company that owns and manages a consulting firm and a public company
director education organization.
In 2003 Mr. Allen retired as Chairman of Psychemedics
Corporation, (PMD:ASE), the largest laboratory company specializing in
hair testing for drugs of abuse. He was formerly Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of Burgess & Leith/Advest, a New York Stock Exchange member
firm and served as interim CEO of the Miami Dolphins NFL Football Organization.
During the past 25 years he has served on twenty public
and numerous private company boards of directors.
Mr Allen is currently a director and Chairman of Collectors
Universe (CLCT:NASDAQ), the leading provider of value added services to
dealers and collectors of high-end collectibles. He serves as a director
of Brooks Automation, Inc. (BRKS:NASDAQ), that provides integrated tool
and factory automation solutions for the global semiconductor and related
industries.
Additionally, he serves as the Lead Director of LKQ Corporation (LKQX:NASDAQ),
the largest nationwide provider of recycled OEM automotive parts and Vice
Chairman of Avantair Corporation, the only publicly-traded pure play fractional
aircraft company. Mr Allen holds a Masters Professional Director Certification,
their highest level award, from the American College of Corporate Directors,
a director education and credentialing organization.
Mr. Allen was Vice Chairman and a director of The DeWolfe
Companies until it was acquired by Cendant Corporation in September of
2002. Additionally, he was a director and member of the Executive Committee
of Swiss Army Brands until it was acquired by Victorinox Corporation in
August of 2002. After 12 years of service, Mr Allen retired as Lead
Director of Steinway Musical Instrument Company.
He provided the original financing for Blockbuster Entertainment,
was their founding director and served on the Board until the company was
acquired by Viacom/Paramount in September of 1994.
Mr. Allen is a Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital
and the President's Council. He served on the Board of Trustees of Miss
Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut and is a member of the Board
of Advisors of Vespoli, USA and Starvest, LLC.
Mr. Allen is the Founder and President of the Corporate
Directors Group, a public company director education organization dedicated
to educating and informing its members on important and relevant board
of director issues. He is also the Founder and President of the Piaggio
Avanti Owners Club, an organization for owners of the Piaggio Avanti jet
speed aircraft.
Mr. Allen is a graduate of Harvard University. He serves
on the Executive Committee of the Friends of Harvard Football and is a
member of the Harvard University Visiting Committee on University Resources
as well as the Harvard Major Gifts Committee.
